Yep, I went and saw the new movie last night. It wasn’t opening night, of course, but it was still opening weekend. And since it was a Sunday afternoon, with 102 degree Texas weather outside, the crowd inside the theater was somewhat large. But I was able to find a good seat, right in the middle, about 6-8 rows back – just where I like it.
If you’ve read the critic reviews on this movie then you know that they aren’t treating it very nicely. The Washington Post review seems to be one of the more common ones. This review deals mostly with the lack of money made by the film during its opening weekend, and says that the public is getting tired of comic book movies are Thor and Xmen: First Class, already released this year.
Well, perhaps… but I still think the reviewers are mostly on crack. Xmen has had a several year following with 4 movies preceding it. I am a huge Xmen fan and I believe that First Class was literally a first class movie. I enjoyed it and wouldn’t mind seeing it again. Thor was, well, like I expected, really. A second rate character the in Marvel Universe and a second rate movie. Now I enjoyed it, don’t get me wrong; but its Thor. Big Deal.
Green Lantern was, quite frankly, better than either of them. It was a new storyline that hollywood hasn’t done before, it was a first rate superhero, and the story was very well done with Ryan Reynolds main character of Hal Jordan showing huge developments and progression throughout the film. I’m going to go see this one again, and maybe this time in 3D.
I’d recommend this movie to anyone who likes action-packed movies, be it comic book heroes or not. This is one of my favorites for the summer, for sure.
