Today I had an exciting job interview with Research In Motion (RIM) who are the Blackberry people. I wasn’t aware that the company was based out of Canada or that their US Corporate Headquarters were here in DFW, but I do now. And good for me, apparently.
The interview went very well and I am excited to see their follow-up with me. The position is for a Supervisor of their Blackberry HelpDesk agents, something very similar to what I have been doing for the past 3 years with CSC.
Hopefully I will hear something later this week or next week from them, and obtain a 2nd interview.
Yesterday I was informed that I no longer had a job with CSC. It came as somewhat of a surprise, but it is also something I have seen coming for a period of time. I am not sure what I am going to do yet, but I do have a few options available to me.
God will provide, of that I have no doubt. And I am somewhat morbidly curious about what direction He is going to take me now also. I wish it hadn’t happened quite like this, but you have to roll with the punches, right? Hey, at least now I don’t have to wear shoes for a while.
I’ll close this post with a quote from someone I have watched since I was very young;
“It’s not about how hard you get hit, it’s about how hard you CAN get hit and keep moving forward. Get up…” -Rocky Balboa
Alright, I got this new phone and I love it. I am posting on my blog from the phone right now, from a free app for WordPress that is made for the Android OS. This is one of many apps that they have.
No, I don’t want an iPhone, not when I can have Google instead. I will pray for you brain-washed cult followers of Apple.

Today I start my “purge” Basically I am going to stop drinking beer and sodas for a while…probably about a month, and I am going to start working-out more regularly. I am also cutting out all fast food (which I don’t eat much of anyway). I am trying to lose some weight and also trying to build up my arms/upper body at the same time.
Last day of the fiscal month at work, and I am still here at 6:45pm. Think its time to head home.
Maybe some day I will write something more insightful on here again.
Every year, Emily’s family has a reunion that they call The Round Up. I created a website for it a few years back, with it’s own blog software, but I haven’ really kept up with it very well. This weekend, I finally got it updated and going again, visit www.fortnerroundup.com
So each year, they have a Spades Tournament, double elimination. I have played every time I attend, and usually I do pretty well, but this year I lost 2 games in a row and I am out completely now. It is fine with me, actually, several times I have won and played through the winners bracket until 3 or 4 o’clock the next morning, only to lose in one of the last games. The whole tournament usually goes to 4am or 5am. I am glad I lost out now instead of doing that again this year.
Tomorrow its back to Grapevine, should be there around lunch time, then perhaps WoW for the afternoon or I might grab a beer at Boomers with Travis, if he actually has time to do it this weekend.
Last night we had dinner reservations at Victory Tavern at Victory Plaza in Dallas. For restaurant week, they had a special menu with a 4-course meal, the options you could choose for each course, with a set price of $35/person. Emily and I went with one of my friends from work, Mike, and his girlfriend Brooke.
Afterwards we stopped at Havana Social Club, a cigar bar right next to the Tavern. There was a write-up in the Dallas Morning News about the cigar bar a couple of months ago, saying they were one of the last places in Dallas where you could still smoke indoors. The atmosphere here was quite nice, it is wedged in between the American Airlines Center, Victory Tavern and a WFAA News Room, where we saw a live broadcast of the 10:00pm News being shot. There is a large concrete area in between all these, with large-screen TVs showing ads and commercials for the area and restaurants around Victory Plaza.
Mike and I each had a Arturo Fuente Cuban Belicoso, which were $11 each. The price was a little high, but you pay for the atmosphere, so it was worth it to me. I’m looking forward to going back there soon.
Off to the Dr. Normal procedure time for the same old thing. I will post later about our trip last weekend, when we bought a new Ford Escape and flew to Fort Lauderdale to pick it up.
Last night around 12:30am I woke up to Missy throwing up. She is my 14-year old dog, a mix of German Shepherd, Rottweiler and Chow. She did this a few months back, kept throwing up constantly, about once every 4-5 minutes, especially after she drank water. Last night wasn’t as bad, she only did it 3 times, with 10-15 minutes between each time. I finally took her into another room and sat down on the floor next to her, only to never see her throw up again. I fell asleep on the floor next to her and slept the rest of the night there.
This morning she was happy and excited about eating food, and going outside, so I am hoping she just had this one bout and it’s over.
So much for my “daily updates”….
Today is Tuesday, and I usually go to Boomer Jack’s Bar & Grill after work with work friends, for Buffalo Wings and beer. So that is the plan tonight.
Emily and I bought a 2005 Ford Escape on ebay last weekend. We put a deposit down and booked a flight, and we leave Friday night to fly to Fort Lauderdale, FL to pick it up. We’ll get there late that night, so we will pickup the truck Saturday morning and hit to road for our 20-hour trek back to TX. ROAD TRIP!
