Today I picked up a new app for my BlackBerry Playbook called Splashtop. It is a Remote Desktop application which uses your Gmail credentials to connect the app on the Playbook to the “streamer” application, which acts as a server, on any Windows or Mac computer you have. You simply install the streamer on your Desktop at home (or wherever) and sign into your Gmail account through the application. Then launch the app on your Playbook (it is also available for iPad and Android tablets) and sign into Gmail through this app also. The apps then connect automatically and you can see your desktop from the tablet, and control it. The connection is a bit slow, as expected, but considering all that it is doing, it really isn’t that bad. Right now I am on a WIFI connection at work, so I’m interested to try it from an open connection at home or elsewhere.
Today we leave for Hawaii. I’ll be posting, hopefully every day, about our trip so keep watching. Of course I will share some pictures too.
