From the Maui trip, I have some additional photos and a couple of videos to post. I’d love to hear comments on them.

Today we’re probably just going to chill around the hotel and relax oon the beach. This hotel is pretty cool the way it is laid out; its rooms are all separated into cabin-style buildings, and each building is spread outookseach. jhhthat looks down oon the beach. Its almost like bungalows I guess.

For dinner I had the Meatball Hoagie. It was homemade meatballs, provolone cheese and parmigiano. It was quite tasty and I ate every bit of it.

If you have a chance to stop at this location in Memphis, I would recommend it. They have several beers on tap, good prices on food, and a laid-back and friendly atmosphere. It seemed to be a very popular place with the locals, which is always a good sign.

Yesterday for dinner, we ate at the Local Gastropub on Main Street in downtown Memphis. They have a nice outside patio area that is basically right on the street, facing the trolley tracks on Main Street. It consists of several tables and patio umbrellas. Inside the door, the pub is a long and narrow room with a bar area on the right and seating in the front two sides, and also along the left side wall. The table along the left side wall is a long community table where you might sit next to someone you don’t know, but last night the crowd wasn’t very large, so we had part of that community table to ourselves.

Their menu consists of typical bar food. I ordered Buffalo Wings with their homemade buffalo sauce. Unfortunately they didn’t serve ranch dressing, but the waitress was nice enough to offer me some Hidden Valley Ranch that they had in the refrigerator for another dish they serve. The wings were quite good, however their flavor very closely resembled the Medium Flavor at Buffalo Wild Wings. Luckily for me, this is one of my favorite flavors at BWW, so I didn’t mind these wings at all. I was also able to sample Ghostriver Pale Ale, a locally brewed beer from Memphis. The pale ale was a bit more hoppy than I care for, but the flavor was good, consisting of an apricot and hops taste.

Overall, this was a very nice place to visit. I look forward to returning on our next trip. The food was good, and the service was great.

Yep, we’re in Memphis again for the weekend. We arrived at 5:30pm this evening, took a half hour cab ride to our hotel, unloaded our bags, and walked down to Beale Street. During our last trip a few months ago, we ate at several places, and Blues City Cafe was our favorite for ribs. We couldn’t wait to get back and try them again.

I also had a cup of their gumbo tonight, something of which I commonly do at new Cajun, Creole or Seafood restaurants. I am pretty sure that I got the gumbo last time I came to Blues City Cafe, but I honestly couldn’t remember if it was good or not. Which usually means it wasn’t, because I should remember a good gumbo. But I decided to try it again, and I was glad that I did. It was a quite spicy, and had a good rue to it, although it still isn’t the best I have had. My wife says the rue takes a long time to cook, so most places tend to skip it. But regardless, this gumbo was very tasty.

After the gumbo, we shared a full rack of ribs. These ribs are the “wet” ribs, as they are called here, which basically means that they have sauce on them. It is BBQ sauce, but not the same kind you find in Texas. Honestly, Memphis BBQ is quite better than Texas BBQ. I am sure I will end up catching some flack about that statement later. However, I really do like Memphis BBQ much better. It has more variety and they tend to smoke the meat more out here than they do at home.

Tomorrow we are going to try a fried chicken place we ate at last time also. And perhaps a breakfast restaurant tomorrow or Monday. I will blog about those later.

This weekend is Emily’s family reunion at Lake Brownwood. Right now I am sitting in the motel room (it’s actually more like a cabin at a church camp, but resembles a motel room) and I am connected to the wifi connection that they broadcast here at the park. Some say I am addicted to being online, which is why I take my laptop everywhere. I would disagree with this statement though, because as soon as I can afford the surgery to implant a wifi transmitter in my brain with an image projector that I can see through the back of my eye, I won’t need a laptop anymore. So obviously, I am not addicted.

The trip has been very fun. I will be uploading photos, some here and some on my Photo-Reflect site, in a couple of days. Watch for them.
